Annie Sloan developed her now famous decorative paint, Chalk Paint™, in 1990 to answer the need she had for a versatile paint that would have many uses from acting like limewash to looking like old painted furniture. She called it Chalk Paint™ because of its beautiful velvety, matt finish.

“One of the great aspects about my paint is the number of different ways it can be used – it is not a one dimensional paint but can be used thickly, thinly, crackled, stippled, overlaid and rubbed through, smoothly, and like gesso.”- Annie Sloan

Chalk Paint™ decorative paint by Annie Sloan is very easy to work with. It very rarely requires any preparation, such as sanding or priming, and can be used indoors or outside on just about any surface - from wood to metal, and matt plastic to terracotta. It can revitalise old furniture, walls, ceilings, and floors with ease. It’s easy, fun, and makes amazing results accessible to everyone.

“There’s no need for tiresome priming and sanding - you can get straight to the fun bit!” - Annie Sloan

With a colour palette inspired by 18th and 20th Century décor and design, you can easily mix the colours together to extend the range. Add a little water to it to make it smooth, thicken it up by leaving the lid off, and make it into a wash by adding even more water. Use flat brushes for a smooth look or bristle brushes for a more textured aged look. Gorgeous results have never been so simple and straightforward.

Chalk Paint™ is eco-friendly too. It contains extremely low volatile organic compounds (‘VOCs’) and has no odour.

Soft Wax

Annie Sloan Soft Wax is the perfect partner for Chalk Paint™. Soft Wax is used for protection and durability and to give a beautiful mellow finish to painted furniture, cabinets, and walls. You can easily apply one or two coats of Soft Wax with a brush or cloth. It has the consistency of soft margarine and has very little odour.

Soft Wax combines two of the purest and hardest natural waxes available - carnauba wax and beeswax. It’s available in Clear and Dark formulations, and can be further coloured with Chalk Paint™. Soft Wax is water-repellent too.

Annie recommends distressing Chalk Paint™ by applying Soft Wax, then sanding.
